4.2 Starting a run on GEM

The basic commands for starting and stopping runs, to be typed on the GEM VMS computer, are as follows:
CHANGE Change the run title and other parameters. Click here for details.
BEGIN Start a run (currently takes about 25 seconds to happen)
END End a run and save the data
UPD Do repeated runs (you can use this command when the instrument is in either a Setup or a Running state)
ABORT Stop the run and erase the data
PAUSE Pause the run
RESUME Resume counting after pausing
UPDATE
STORE
Save the data in a file, but do not end the run

See section 4.5 for more detailed information on these commands.

At present a typical GEM .RAW datafile is about 52 thousand blocks on VMS, which is equivalent to about 26 MegaBytes.
