4.2 Starting a run on GEM
The basic commands for starting and stopping runs, to be typed on the GEM VMS
computer, are as follows:
| CHANGE | Change the run title and other parameters. Click here for details. |
| BEGIN | Start a run (currently takes about 25 seconds to happen) |
| END | End a run and save the data |
| UPD | Do repeated runs (you can use this command when the instrument is in either a Setup or a Running state) |
| ABORT | Stop the run and erase the data |
| PAUSE | Pause the run |
| RESUME | Resume counting after pausing |
| UPDATE STORE |
Save the data in a file, but do not end the run |
See section 4.5 for more detailed information on these commands.
At present a typical GEM .RAW datafile is about 52 thousand blocks on VMS, which is equivalent to about 26 MegaBytes.
