4.1 SECI - Sample Environment Computer Interface
The GEM instrument and associated equipment are controlled from a piece of software called SECI - Sample Environment Computer Interface. This software runs on a PC under the Windows operating system.

Configurations in SECI
The SECI settings for an experiment may be saved as a "configuration".
A configuration which is no longer required may be deleted from SECI on GEM using Windows Explorer to open the directory C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\seci\seciconfigs\GEM and then deleting both the folder and .cfg file for the configuration. Note that the configuration is still retained in SourceSafe and so a deleted configuration can still be reinstated.
