GEM Choppers

GEM has two disc choppers for limiting and setting the wavelength range (and avoiding frame-overlap). These are positioned 6.5m and 9.75m from the moderator.

GEM also has a nimonic chopper at 9.45m from the moderator. This chopper is for reducing the contribution to the background from high energy neutrons. At present the nimonic chopper runs at 50Hz, but the ability to run at 100Hz is being developed.
