4.4 Plotting Temperature or Pressure on GEM
The temperature of sample environment equipment and the pressure in the sample tank may be logged and plotted on the GEM VMS computer.
Logging the Temperature or Pressure
The VMS computer uses a camac system to control and log parameters such as the temperature of a sensor. The parameters which are being logged are normally displayed on the dashboard.
Plotting Temperature or Pressure in Real-time
If you type run g_f:reality_pgplot you can produce a real-time plot of the temperature or pressure. The plot produced by this program will be updated every 10 seconds as the temperature (or pressure) changes. Click here for an example plot.
Plotting Temperature or Pressure in Genie v2
Genie v2 may be used to produce a plot of the temperature or pressure by typing tplot or pplot. This works by loading a workspace with data from a log file and hence it produces a one-off plot which is not further updated as the temperature (or pressure) changes. If you want to see an update of the plot then you must run the program again. (If you are logged on using your own username, rather than the GEM username, then the commands may not be set up.) Example plots are here: Temperature plot example Pressure plot example
Alternative quick commands for plotting temperature are as follows...
tcur 1 | Put the temperature log for the current run in workspace W1 |
told 2 11047 | Put the temperature log for the completed run number 11047 in workspace W2 |
