The LAD sample tank is smaller than the ISIS standard ‘Tomkinson hole’ (diameter ~40cm) because it was designed before the existence of this standard. Nevertheless the beam centre line on LAD is 30cm below the flange on the top of the sample tank, the same as for the standard, and hence most pieces of ISIS sample environment equipment are suitable for use on LAD. There is one important exception to this - the standard orange cryostats have too large a diameter to fit on LAD and hence a special narrow diameter cryostat exists for use on LAD.

User provided sample environment equipment may be used on LAD provided that it fits within the dimensions of the sample tank shown below:
