For the analysis of data for a solid sample it is essential to have a knowledge of the number of atoms in the neutron beam and the effective density in the sample container. It is thus very important to measure the height of the sample in the container, and to weigh the sample. A good quality balance, mounted on a concrete block to minimise vibrations, is available for this purpose in the Chemistry Laboratory on the North side of the R55 Experimental Hall.
